Into the Light by rockingyourstar Into the Light by rockingyourstar
This is my final for Drawing 2. We had to choose an artist as a "muse" and research them, so I chose the controversial illustrator of the "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" books, Stephen Gammell. He's the guy who gave you nightmares in elementary school with his famous macabre drawings of skeletal girls and ethereal, crumbling scenery, remember? Look him up. I'm sure it'll bring back some childhood memories. ;)

Drawn in charcoal and a tiny bit of graphite. Took about 6 hours.

I never encountered Stephen Gammell's work, but it certainly is creepy, and slightly haunting :).
I can see why you were inspired!

Very interesting skull!
Did you have a muse, as it were?
My cousin Amy (who is also currently a housemate) is a real animal geek, and own a whole assortment of dead animal bits XD.

Dude, you need to see his stuff. Just look up "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" (the old illustrations, not the new crap they put with them because parents are sissies).

What do you mean by "muse"? :) I didn't have a physical skull, just a photo (though a real one would be amazing). I've never really had the resources to collect and process things like animal bones and parts and such.

I did a Google search for his artwork, they do seem pretty cool ^^.
Pity the old illustrations aren't published anymore - would be
something worth having a copy of. I guess an old copy might
be available online somewhere.

Yep, that's what I meant - a reference :).
Yeah, I'm not really sure where she got those bones and skulls from.
I'm fairly sure they were already like that when she found them XD.

She does spend a lot of time wandering around in the bush though -
I know that's where she found her cattle skull!
