Connor, sitting in the hammock-like mushroom chair with his laptop on his lap, spoke animatedly with James, who rested on the floor with papers spread about him. Savannah stood at the desk, adjusting the audio settings on the video call with the final member of their group, Kevin, who could not be physically present. After testing the clarity of her computer’s mic and speakers, she joined James on the floor in view of Kevin’s vantage point from the corner of the desk. The air proved even hotter than they had expected, ripe with the stench of decaying foliage. Every surface appeared to be wet or slimy, if not both, and the plants seemed to rise out of the ground to grasp at their feet.

The players stepped over legs and papers to resume their usual places on the floor and in chairs; two more places were occupied this time, making for a much more crowded circle in the cramped dorm room. The first spot was now taken by Kevin, who had been able to be physically present for this session. The second, on the floor across from James, had been filled by Andrew, whose character would be joining the ragtag group of sailors.

Cadaver was confused. One minute he was in his library starting to doze off and the next he was here. Tall grey stone walls surrounded him, like a long hallway but without a ceiling. The ground below was like a travel worn dirt road and he snorted in disgust as the wind blew some of the dust onto his shoes.
He knew this was not a dream. He had extensive knowledge on the REM cycle and the subconscious. There was defiantly magic in play here. He jumped as a women's voice broke the silence.
"Welcome to the 2012 Fantasy games! I am Ghost, and I will be your host. The eight of you have been chosen to represent the best of what fiction has to offer. The name of the game, be the last one alive. The only rule, to survive. Your creators may offer some help if they choose. But the rest is up to you. May the odds be forever in your favor."
